In the begining...

Let me start off by saying that blogging is a completely new experience for me. It seemed a bit self-indulgent to wax poetic about the state of the world and/or my life. Something that people who had too much time and not a whole lot to say did.

However, after trying numerous ways of keeping in touch while off exploring, I've decided to give it a shot. There must be a reason that travel blog sites are popping up all over the place. It's got to be better than the impersonal mass emails which clogged inboxes while I was in Singapore and definitely better than the approach taken in Australia (simply not emailing). I've already been here for about 3 weeks and have just managed to make my first blog post, so there's plenty of room to improve.

To bring you up to date, I'm currently in Washington DC and will be here for about the next 7 months. I've joined the hundreds of other interns on Capitol Hill. As some of you know, I've been bitten by the travel bug rather hard, and have a feeling that I've now got a terminal illness that results in me feeling an almost constant desire to travel. I keep promising that I'll get a "normal" job soon, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up- being in the political epicentre of the free world (or so I'm told) during an election year at one of the nation's most important missions. Bring it on!
